What To Expect From Your First Visit

Before you arrive at our office for your first visit, we will ask you to fill out several forms to familiarize you with our practice. If time permits, we would be happy to mail these forms before your appointment so that you may bring the completed forms with you. We have included these dental forms for you to download on our website and bring with you on your visit.

At your first appointment, you will receive a thorough examination. We will discuss your medical and dental experiences and analyze each tooth and its supporting structures. Our team will also examine other soft tissues of the mouth and lips and evaluate your bite and the function of the jaw joint. In addition, we will perform a cosmetic evaluation and take any necessary digital radiographs, photographs, and study models of your mouth at this appointment.

At the second appointment, we will discuss the examination findings and establish a comprehensive treatment program that will assist you in maintaining your dental health for a lifetime. It is essential to schedule dental visits every six months or twice a year.

A Child’s First Dental Visit

Your child’s first dental visit should be scheduled around their first birthday. The most important part of the visit is getting to know and becoming comfortable with the dental team. A pleasant, relaxing first visit builds trust and helps put the child at ease during future dental visits.

The Importance of Brushing and Flossing

Following a good oral hygiene routine is essential when you aren’t visiting our office. Brushing twice daily for two minutes and flossing at least once daily can remove harmful bacteria from the smile.

We recommend that patients use a toothbrush with soft bristles and a small strip of fluoride toothpaste. When you brush your teeth, move the brush in small, circular motions to reach food particles under your gum line. Hold the toothbrush at an angle and brush slowly and carefully, covering all areas between the teeth and the surface of each tooth. Do not swallow toothpaste, and rinse your mouth thoroughly with water after brushing. When the bristles wear down or fray, replace your toothbrush with a new one.

For areas between the teeth that a toothbrush can’t reach, dental floss is used to remove food particles and plaque. It is essential to floss between your teeth every day. When flossing, wrap the ends of the floss tightly around your middle fingers. Guide the floss between all teeth to the gum line, removing any food particles or plaque. Unwrap clean floss from around your fingers as you go so that you have used the floss from beginning to end. When you finish, floss behind all of your back teeth.
